Aljaž Farasin
Aljaž Farasin, principal singer of the SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana (Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana) studied opera singing under the mentorship of Prof. Vlatka Oršanić at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, from which he graduated with honours.
He started his solo career in 2009, appearing in the role of Sempronio in Hayden's The Apothecary (Lo speziale) on the stage of the SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana. He expanded his repertoire with numerous roles already during the first years of his professional performing, including Tamino in The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte), Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Nemorino in The Elixir of Love, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Camille in The Merry Widow, Alfredo in The Bat (Die Fledermaus) and Ecclitico in The World of the Moon (Il mondo della Luna). In 2012, he began adding to his repertoire the principal tenor roles in the operas by Verdi, Puccini, Tchaikovsky, Janáček, Massenet, Bizet and Gou-nod. He has appeared on the stage of the SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana in an enviable number of opera performances, such as Traviata (Alfredo), Rigoletto (Duke of Mantua), Nabucco (Ismaele), Macbeth (Macduff), La Bohème (Rodolfo), Madama Butterfly (Pinkerton), The Magic Flute (Tamino), Don Giovanni (Don Ottavio), Otello (Casio), The Bat (Alfred), The Merry Widow (Camille), Káťa Kabanová (Boris), Carmen (don José), Salome (Narraboth), Fidelio (Jaquino), The Nightingale of Gorenjska (Franjo), The Flying Dutchman (Der Fliegende Höllander) (Daland's Steersman), Faust (Faust), Don Carlos (Don Carlos), Eugene Onegin (Lensky), Werther (Werther), etc.
In the 2015/2016 season, he made his debut at the Croatian National Theatre in Rijeka as Alfredo (Traviata) and later on also became a principal singer of this theatre. In just a few seasons in the Opera Theatre in Rijeka, he enriched his repertoire, consisting of the roles of Duke of Mantua, Rodolfo, Don José and Pinkerton with the roles of Lensky, Werther, Fenton (Falstaff), Romeo and the leading role in Gounod's Faust, which he also recorded for the Naxos label alongside Carlo Colombaro, Lucio Gallo, Marjukka Tepponen, Diana Haller, Walter Torikko and under the baton of Ville Matvejeff. He also recorded the opera Il Ritorno del Marinaio (Franz von Suppé) with the ensemble of the Opera Theatre in Rijeka, alongside Giorgio Suriano, Marjukka Tepponen and under the musical leadership of Ville Matvejeff,
He also upgraded his concert repertoire with Verdi’s Requiem, with which he appeared on the stage in Rijeka, under the musical leadership of Yordan Kamdzhalov and in Dubrovnik under the baton of Marc Tardue.
In 2015, he toured in Japan (Tokio, Sendai, Aomori, Saporo, Toyama, Hiroshima, Osaka, Matsudo, Tsu, Hamamatsu), where he interpreted the role of Don José alongside Vesselina Kasarova. The same year, he made his debut in the National Theatre in Prague as Vaudémont in Jolanta. In January 2018, he sang the role of Boris (Káťa Kabanová) at the Opéra National du Rhin, and in September of the same year, the role of Don José on tour in Belgium and the Netherlands (Antwerpen, Haag, Heerlen, Brugge, Gent).
Aljaž Farasin performed in concerts and in various opera productions with renowned conductors and singers, such as Sumi Jo, Veronika Dzhioeva, Maida Hundeling, Tibor Bogányi, Loris Voltolini, Nikša Bareza, Jan Latham-Koenig, Jaroslav Kyzlink, Ricardo Casero, Alberto Martinelli, Stefano Pellegrino, Uroš Lajovic, Marko Letonja, Daniel Lipton and Aleksandar Marković.
