Zoran Potočan
Bass singer Zoran Potočan graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana. He studied solo singing under the supervision of Prof. Irena Baar at the Ljubljana Secondary Music and Ballet School and Prof. Eva Novšak Houška at the Ljubljana Academy of Music, where he also finished his specialisation. He perfected his singing technique attending various international master classes (by I. Cotrubas, M. Lipovšek, A. Burgstaller, K. Widmer, L. Spitzer) as well as at the International Opera Studio in Zürich (IOS). In 2019, he received his doctorate at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana with the topic: Aesthetic Perception of the Singing Voice in Relation to the Acoustic Conditions.
While he was still studying, he recorded four CD’s – i.e. the series, entitled as Slovenian Musical Heritage. In 1993 he made his debut appearance in the SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana (Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana) as a Monk in Verdi's Don Carlos, where he was promoted to a soloist in 2000. He has among others appeared in the following roles: Don Geronimo (The Secret Marriage), Don Bartolo (The Marriage of Figaro), Masetto (Don Giovanni), Wagner (Faust), Sarastro (Papageno Plays the Magic Flute), Harlequin (The Inquisitive Women), Martino (Opportunity Makes the Thief), High Priest (Nabucco), Don Pasquale (Don Pasquale), Bertrand (Jolanta), Pierre Fleville (Andrea Chénier), Frank (The Bat), Luka (The Bear), Farfarello (The Love for Three Oranges), Doctor Grenvil (La traviata), Zuniga (Carmen), Benoit (La bohème), Skula (Prince Igor), A Priest ( Love Capital), Inkeeper (The Nightingale of Gorenjska), Bartolo (The Barber of Seville), Dikoy (Katya Kabanova), Wurm (Luisa Miller), Dulcamara (The Elixir of Love) … In the 1997/98 season he performed on the stage of the Zürich Opera (Opernhaus Zürich).
He has been also dedicating himself to teaching. The artist has appeared on numerous concert stages and collaborated with various renowned orchestras and choruses as at home as well as abroad.
